LEHP New Zealand
Helping Kiwi Kids See a Brighter Future
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
The Lions Eye Health Programme (LEHP) provides free vision screening to children throughout New Zealand, helping identify potential eye and vision issues that may otherwise go unnoticed.

It is estimated that 1 in 5 children have a vision problem that can affect their learning, development and confidence. Through the dedication of trained volunteers, Participating Clubs and community partners, we are making a real difference in the lives of Kiwi children and their families.

Together, we are building a future where every child has the chance to see clearly and reach their full potential.

Helping Kiwi Kids See Clearly – One Child at a Time.

Why Vision Screening Matters
Many children do not realise they have a vision problem because poor eyesight may seem normal to them.

Undetected vision issues can affect:
  • Reading and learning
  • Confidence and participation
  • Sporting performance
  • Behaviour and concentration
  • Overall wellbeing

Early detection allows families to seek professional advice and treatment when required.
How It Works
1. Schools Register
Schools and Early Childhood Centres can request a free screening visit.

2. Parent Consent
Parents and caregivers provide consent for their child to participate.

3. Screening Day
Our trained volunteers conduct a series of age-appropriate vision screening tests.

4. Follow-Up
Where required, families receive information recommending further assessment by an eye care professional.
