Become a Children’s Vision Screening Club

The Lions Eye Health Programme (LEHP) Children’s Vision Screening Programme, supported by Lions Clubs International Foundation, helps children see clearly by identifying potential vision issues early.

Who Can Be Involved
  • Lions, Omega Leos, and volunteers (including non-Lions) can train to become Vision Screeners.
  • Lions or Leos can become Facilitators to coordinate screenings after completing advanced training.

How to Become a Screener
Complete all three parts of LEHP’s accredited training:
  1. Online Training Course (approx. 30 minutes)
    – Includes self-check questions and registration
  2. Hands-On Training Workshop
    – Learn to use equipment and run screening stations
  3. Supervised Screening Session
    – Gain practical experience at a local facility
    – Recommended are three practical sessions.
Becoming a Facilitator
Facilitators undergo further training endorsed by a LEHP Instructor and follow processes outlined in the LEHP Facilitator Manual. They are authorised to run and organise screenings.

Screening Equipment
  • Each District has access to LEHP-endorsed screening kits, including a Spot Vision Screener. (Not yet available in New Zealand)
  • Costs for transport and training events are covered by the screening Club or District.
  • Clubs may apply for a matching grant to purchase their own kits.

Child Safety
All volunteers must be Police vetted.

Club Involvement
To access training, equipment, and resources, a Lions Club must become a LEHP Participating Club by contributing $5.00 per member annually.

Running a Screening
  • Must include an accredited Facilitator and trained Screeners.
  • Screenings are official Lions projects and follow risk management protocols.
  • Club shirts and name badges should be worn.
  • Personal data must be returned to the host facility for secure disposal.
  • Screening records are sent to the National Program Manager promptly.
